The benefits of adding Dead Sea salts to a wellness program
I have been very fortunate in my career. I have had the opportunity to work in multiple leadership positions which have provided me with valuable experiences and training. In these positions, education has always been a fundamental role. Especially when I am talking about products or self-care programs that will best achieve a client's desired results.
When I am selecting or making products for High Vibing Wellness Mobile Spa, choosing natural products that have the widest range of benefits is ideal. For anyone who has a had a treatment with me you know I am a major advocate for using Dead Sea salts. Since the Dead Sea has been renowned for its therapeutic and healing properties for centuries.
The water of the Dead Sea is almost 9 times saltier than the ocean, making it hyper-saline. It is so salty that it cannot support aquatic life, hence the name.
Dead Sea salt is rich in over 21 trace minerals, such as Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Bromide, Iodine and Zinc. This high mineral content is what contributes to its health and skincare benefits.
Here are 20 benefits of Dead Sea salt:
Alleviates discomfort caused by arthritis
Helps treat psoriasis and eczema
Detoxifies the Body
Restores electrolyte balance
Reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after massage or exercise
Relaxes the muscles
Reduces feelings of stress and anxiety
Promotes restful sleep
Nourishes and hydrates the skin
Increases circulation to the skin
Reduces the appearance of acne
Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Calms the skin and reduces itchiness associated with hives, rashes, dermatitis and other skin allergies
Minimises the appearance of cellulite
Reduces the appearance of stretch marks during and after pregnancy
Strengthens nails and hair
What about Epsom salts?
Epsom Salts are a pure mineral compound composed of magnesium sulphate, they lack the other trace minerals found in Dead Sea salts. All of these extra trace minerals in Dead Sea salts are what boosts their healing properties.
My favourite ways to incorporate Dead Sea salts into a wellness program:
This is the basic formula I use when incorporating scrubs in body treatments.
¼ cup dead sea salt
2 tbsp oil of your choice
3-5 drops essential oil of your choice
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Exfoliating weekly will help rejuvenate the skin and promote cellular renewal. Add a little water to the skin, not too much or the salts will dissolve. Massage the skin with the Dead Sea salt scrub in a circular motion preferably towards the heart. This draws blood to the skin's surface, encouraging the release of toxins and promoting healing.
Note: Never shave before a salt scrub or bath it will sting. This recipe is only for the body, it would be too abrasive as a face scrub.
Mineral salt bath
This is my number one piece of self-care advice after a massage or work-out. It will significantly enhance the effectiveness of the massage and reduce the likelihood of DOMS the next day.
¼ cup of dead sea salt
3-4 drops essential oil (optional)
Mix essential oil in the salts
Run a hot bath add the salts. Soak for 15-20 minutes.
Note: Pregnant women and people with certain underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure are advised not to have baths unless cleared by a medical physician.
A great alternative if you do not have a bathtub.
2 tbsp Dead Sea salts
2 drops essential oil (optional)
Mix essential oil in the salts
Fill a foot bath with warm water and add the salts. Soak feet for 15 minutes.
Note: Dead Sea salts should only be used externally. Consult a medical practitioner before using mineral salts for therapeutic purposes. Pregnant and nursing women and those taking prescription drugs are especially advised not to use mineral salts without the medical advice of a physician.
